Logistics Team Leader - Stores & Packing

Location: Poole, Dorset Job Type: Permanent Hours: Monday - Thursday: 8.00am - 4.30pm Friday: 8.00am - 1.00pm Overtime: Available after standard working hours Salary: Competitive, depending on experience

We are recruiting for an experienced Logistics Team Leader - Stores & Packing to join a well-established engineering manufacturer based in Poole, Dorset.

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for the day-to-day running of the Stores and Packing teams, managing approximately seven employees and ensuring materials and components flow efficiently through the manufacturing operation. The position covers goods inward, stock control, stores, packing and the movement of parts throughout production.

The Role

Working closely with Supply Chain and Production, you will coordinate the team and ensure daily and weekly targets are achieved.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading and coordinating the Stores and Packing team.
• Managing employees working across different shift rotas, ensuring appropriate staffing and coverage.
• Organising daily workloads, priorities and resources.
• Ensuring materials and components move efficiently through manufacturing and despatch.
• Maintaining accurate stock and inventory records.
• Coordinating goods inwards and resolving delivery discrepancies promptly.
• Managing packing activities to ensure customer orders are completed on time.
• Monitoring team performance, training and development.
• Running daily team meetings and toolbox talks.
• Supporting recruitment, inductions and ongoing training.
• Managing holidays, absence and return-to-work processes.
• Ensuring quality, Health & Safety and operating procedures are followed.
• Monitoring KPIs and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency.
• Supporting continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.
• Investigating stock, packing and stores issues and helping prevent recurrence.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone with previous experience in a Stores, Warehouse, Logistics or Materials environment, ideally within engineering or manufacturing, who is confident managing people and coordinating a busy operational team.

You should have:

• Previous team leadership or people management experience, ideally including employees working across shift patterns.
• Strong organisational, planning and prioritisation skills.
• Experience of stock control and inventory management.
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
• Experience using ERP/MRP systems.
• Good knowledge of Health & Safety within a warehouse or manufacturing environment.
• Strong communication skills and the confidence to lead, motivate and develop a team.
• An understanding of production planning, purchasing or materials would be advantageous.
• Experience of Lean/Continuous Improvementwould also be beneficial.
